Cerebrospinal Fluid:

  • Cerebrospinal fluid is a transparent, colorless fluid.

  • Secreted by: Specialized “Ependymal Cells” of “Choroid Plexus” in brain ventricles.

  • It is present in subarachnoid space and ventricles of the brain.

  • Its composition and pH are similar to blood plasma.

  • It carries glucose, oxygen and other nutrients to neurons and neuroglia.

  • Approximate daily production is 500ml per day.

  • Normal volume is 80 to 150 ml in adults.

  • Functions of CSF:

    • Protection.

    • Maintains uniform pressure.

    • Chemical protection.

    • Medium for exchange of nutrients and waste materials.
